Two Sentenced to Prison Following Langstrasse Riots in Zurich
Prosecutors issue summary penalty orders against two Swiss men after weekend clashes in District 4.

The Zurich public prosecutor's office has sentenced two young Swiss men to unconditional prison sentences following violent street unrest in the city over the weekend. The law enforcement action follows clashes that broke out in the Langstrasse quarter of Zurich's District 4 during the night between Saturday and Sunday.
According to statements from the public prosecutor's office, the two men actively supported violent attacks against both individuals and property while the riots were underway. Prosecutors noted in particular that the targeted individuals included police officers who were deployed to the area to manage the escalation of violence.
The penal decisions issued by the authorities encompass a range of criminal offenses committed during the disturbance. The public prosecutor's office charged both Swiss nationals with breach of the public peace, trespassing, and property damage, alongside charges of violence and threats against public officials and authorities.
Additionally, prosecutors cited both individuals for violating the ban on wearing face coverings during the street unrest. The summary penalty orders handed down by the prosecution stipulate unconditional custodial sentences, meaning the imposed prison terms must be served rather than suspended.
These summary penalty orders have not yet attained final legal force under Swiss law. The two convicted individuals maintain the legal option to file an objection against the prosecution's rulings, an action that would require the cases to be submitted to a court for formal judicial adjudication.
