Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data Alpine Weekly collects when you read the site, create an account, comment or contact us, why we do it, who helps us and what rights you have. It is written for the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for readers in the EU and EEA, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible

This website is operated by Alpine Weekly ("we", "us"). For any question about privacy, or to use any of your rights, write to info@alpineweekly.com. We answer within 30 days.

2. When you read the site

When you open a page, your browser sends technical data that our hosting provider records for a short time: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and browser and device type. We need this to deliver the site and to protect it against abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

We also count visits with Vercel Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, does not identify you, and receives only the page address without any query or fragment. It does not need your consent.

3. Accounts

If you register, we store your email address, first and last name, password (encrypted, never readable by us), an optional profile picture, the time of your last sign-in and the comments you write. We use these to run your account and to send emails you need, such as confirming your address or resetting your password. Legal basis: performance of our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

We keep account data until you ask us to delete your account.

4. Comments

Comments are public under your name or nickname. Guest comments store the nickname, the comment and your IP address, so we can stop spam and abuse. Before a comment appears, an automated system checks it against our rules, and our team may review it. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a safe discussion (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

5. Contacting us

If you email us, we use your address and message only to answer you, and delete them when they are no longer needed.

6. Cookies

Necessary cookies are always on, because the site cannot work without them:

  • cc_cookie: remembers your cookie choice (6 months)
  • NEXT_LOCALE: remembers your language
  • auth-session, strapi_up_refresh: keep you signed in (only if you have an account)

Analytics cookies are set only if you agree in the cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. When you withdraw, we delete these cookies. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

7. Analytics tools (only with your consent)

Google Tag Manager loads the following tools only after you agree. They tell us which articles are read and how the site is used. Text you type into forms is not recorded.

  • Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC, USA): visits, pages, device and approximate location. Cookies: _ga, _ga_*.
  • Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation, USA): clicks, scrolling and recordings of page use, with text masked. Cookies: _clck, _clsk.
  • Yandex Metrica (Yandex LLC, Russia): visits, clicks, scrolling and recordings of page use. Cookies: _ym_*, yandexuid.

8. Service providers

We work with these providers. They process data on our behalf and only for the purposes described here:

  • Vercel Inc. (USA): hosting and delivery of the website, Web Analytics
  • Google Cloud (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC): our editorial system and database in Finland (EU), and storage of images
  • Cloudflare Inc. (USA): domain name service and network protection
  • Mailgun Technologies Inc. (USA): sending account emails

9. Data outside Switzerland and the EU

Some providers are based in the USA. Where a provider is certified under the Swiss-US and EU-US Data Privacy Framework, that framework applies; otherwise the provider uses the standard contractual clauses approved for this purpose.

Yandex Metrica sends data to Russia. Neither Switzerland nor the EU recognises Russia as having an adequate level of data protection, and Russian authorities may be able to access the data. We use Yandex Metrica only if you give your explicit consent in the cookie banner (Art. 17(1)(a) FADP, Art. 49(1)(a) GDPR). If you do not agree, no data is sent to Yandex.

10. How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. Server records are kept for a short time for security. Analytics data is kept according to each tool's retention settings.

11. Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, delete it, limit or object to its use, or receive it in a common format. You can withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what was done before. Write to info@alpineweekly.com.

You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC); in the EU, the authority in your country.

12. Children

The site is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data.

13. Security and changes

We protect data with encryption in transit, restricted access to our systems and regular updates. No system is perfectly secure. We may update this policy when our services change; the date at the top shows the latest version.
