Swiss Flight to Paris Returns to Zurich Following Cockpit Odour

A Swiss International Air Lines flight from Zurich to Paris returned safely to its airport of departure on Friday morning after crew members detected an unusual odour in the cockpit and passenger cabin. Flight LX632, operated by an Airbus A321-212 carrying 151 passengers, landed back at Zurich Airport less than an hour after take-off.

According to flight tracking data from Flightradar24, the aircraft departed Zurich at 6:29 a.m. local time. Approximately thirty minutes into the flight, while cruising over the Jura region near the French border, the crew altered course and initiated a return to Zurich. The aircraft touched down without further incident at 7:18 a.m.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed the diversion to Swiss public broadcaster SRF, explaining that flight personnel initially noticed an unusual smell in the cockpit shortly after departure. The odour subsequently became perceptible in the forward section of the passenger cabin, prompting the crew to abort the flight to Paris as a precautionary measure.

The spokesperson stated that there was no fire on board the aircraft at any point during the flight. All 151 passengers and crew members were reported uninjured following the landing in Zurich. Ground staff at the airport began rebooking the affected travelers onto alternative connections to Paris later in the morning.

Technical specialists have taken charge of the Airbus A321-212 to determine the exact origin of the smell. The airline stated that the aircraft remains on the ground while engineers carry out a thorough technical examination ahead of any potential return to service.
