Trump Names Stephen Miller as White House Chief of Staff Replacing Susie Wiles
The personnel change follows Democratic gains in both houses of Congress during the midterm elections.
United States President Donald Trump has named his senior adviser Stephen Miller as the new White House chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles. The appointment, announced on Friday via Trump's Truth Social platform, takes effect on Monday. Wiles will transition to a leadership role within the Trump Political Operation after managing White House operations since the start of the presidential term.
The administrative realignment follows US midterm election results in which the Democratic Party secured victories across both houses of Congress. Official tallies show Democrats winning 253 seats in the 435-member House of Representatives, with 27 races still to be determined. In the Senate, Democrats gained seven seats, while vote counting remains underway in Alaska and Mississippi. Democratic lawmakers are expected to launch congressional inquiries involving Miller when the new legislative session convenes in January.
Miller has served as a close strategist to Trump since joining his initial presidential campaign in 2016. Across two presidential terms, Miller has functioned as the principal designer of the administration's immigration policies and border enforcement initiatives. Prior to the election, Miller publicly called on voters to support administration candidates, describing the vote as essential to preserving policy achievements against political opposition.
Trump praised both officials in his announcement on Friday, referring to Miller as one of my most trusted advisors and thanking Wiles for her service in the White House. For her part, Wiles described her tenure as chief of staff as the honour of a lifetime and cited achievements in border enforcement, tax cuts, and economic measures.
