Rookie Capital: Yaxel Lendeborg Bails Out the Resting Warriors
While Stephen Curry managed his troublesome knee, Golden State's 11th overall draft pick carried the franchise to a fourth straight victory.

When multi-million-dollar veterans take a back seat for knee management, the NBA machine rarely pauses to mourn. The Golden State Warriors demonstrated this pragmatic reality on Sunday, overriding the absence of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green with a 124-112 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. The architect of Golden State's fourth consecutive victory was not a seasoned superstar, but Yaxel Lendeborg, a 24-year-old rookie who took complete ownership of the court.
Drafted 11th overall in 2026, the American-Dominican forward racked up 37 points, four rebounds, and six assists. It was the highest single-game scoring output by a Warriors rookie since Curry himself scored 42 points back in 2010. Curry, who had averaged 33 points across his previous three outings—including a 44-point performance against Minnesota—watched from the bench as Lendeborg stepped into the void. After losing their opening three games following a postseason miss last year, Golden State's turnaround has rested heavily on an unseasoned newcomer.
Head coach Steve Kerr observed that while the pace of the professional game remains noticeably fast for Lendeborg, the rookie's sheer skill and talent have allowed him to generate an immediate impact just weeks into his debut season. Lendeborg noted his intention to maintain his enthusiasm on the floor, occasionally borrowing a move or two from his veteran teammate while staying focused on the process.
Elsewhere across the league, high-priced starters were forced to work until the final whistle. The Los Angeles Lakers secured a 131-125 win over the Toronto Raptors, powered by Luka Doncic, who produced 45 points and 15 rebounds. What began as a comfortable 26-point lead degenerated into a nervous fourth quarter when Toronto's Jamison Battle poured in 15 points in the final period, prompting coach JJ Redick to reinsert his starting line-up in the closing minute.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics recorded their fifth straight win, topping the Orlando Magic 108-97. Jayson Tatum led Boston with 32 points and seven assists, while Paul George contributed 17 points, eight assists, two steals, and two blocks. Despite allowing a 15-point lead to vanish during a sloppy third quarter, Boston's defense recovered, forcing 18 turnovers that yielded 21 points.
Further down the standings, financial investment met reality in mixed fashion. The Brooklyn Nets finally recorded their first victory of the campaign, moving to 1-5 after defeating the Indiana Pacers 98-90, backed by Michael Porter Jr.’s 23 points and nine rebounds. That result leaves the Sacramento Kings isolated at the bottom of the league as the sole remaining winless franchise at 0-6. Off the court, administrative discipline was delivered to Atlanta Hawks guard Kingston Flemings, who received a one-game unpaid suspension for intentionally elbowing New Orleans guard Bryce McGowens in the head during Saturday's 121-99 loss.
