Thirteen-Year-Old Suspected of Stabbing Youth in Gladenbach Park

A 13-year-old boy allegedly stabbed and critically injured a 15-year-old youth during a confrontation in a park in Gladenbach, Hesse, local police and public prosecutors reported. Following the incident, law enforcement officers handed the suspect over to his parents because he remains below the age of criminal legal responsibility under German law.

The altercation occurred on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:20 p.m. in a public park in the Hessian town. According to law enforcement accounts, the 13-year-old initially entered into a verbal dispute with two older youths, aged 15 and 16. He left the location briefly before returning to the park accompanied by his 15-year-old brother.

Upon returning, the 13-year-old allegedly assaulted the 15-year-old with a knife, inflicting life-threatening injuries. At the same time, his 15-year-old brother deployed pepper spray against the 16-year-old youth. Emergency services transported the stabbed victim to a hospital, where his condition has since stabilized, according to the latest information provided by the police.

Because the suspect is 13 years old, he cannot be held criminally liable under German law, which establishes 14 as the statutory minimum age of legal responsibility. Consequently, officers released the boy into parental care while police and prosecutor officials officially initiated an investigation into attempted homicide. Authorities noted that further particulars regarding the background and identities of the involved parties remain undisclosed.
