Kyiv Targeted in Ballistic Missile Attack Ahead of Abu Dhabi Talks
Ukrainian authorities report damage to residential infrastructure as diplomatic meetings near in the United Arab Emirates.

Russian ballistic missiles struck the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Saturday, injuring two civilians and damaging residential properties along with an educational facility, local officials reported. The attack followed warnings issued by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy concerning potential strikes against energy facilities, bridges, and key urban infrastructure.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated on Telegram that military forces targeted infrastructure across the capital with ballistic missiles. Debris from the incoming weapons struck a five-storey apartment building in a western district of the city and damaged the facade of another nearby residential building, according to Klitschko. Kyiv’s military administration confirmed that two individuals suffered injuries and a building housing a kindergarten sustained structural damage.
Russian officials have not commented on the reported strike in Kyiv. The military actions occurred three days before scheduled Ukrainian-Russian negotiations in Abu Dhabi aimed at resolving the war, marking the first direct talks between the sides since February. Ukrainian lead negotiator Rustem Umerov said online that preparatory discussions in Brussels involving representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the European Union, the World Bank, and investment firm BlackRock focused on post-war reconstruction, funding for next year, and security guarantees. In an interview, Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv is pursuing specific commitments from Western allies regarding post-war security mechanisms.
Addressing the diplomatic process, US President Donald Trump stated after a White House meeting with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev that a deal between Russia and Ukraine may be imminent. Trump noted that he did not hold discussions with the Ukrainian delegation on that occasion. The meeting coincided with a diplomatic event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump following a localized truce in Oleshky that expired last Sunday.
Following the expiration of that local ceasefire, an attack targeted an aid distribution center in Komyshuvakha, located in the Zaporizhia region. The Emergency Service of Ukraine reported on Friday that the death toll from the Komyshuvakha incident reached 50 people. Russian authorities have not issued a statement regarding the strike or the casualty figures reported by Ukrainian emergency services.
