India Takes 2-0 Series Lead Over New Zealand After Rain-Assisted Victory in Wellington

India took a 2-0 lead in their five-match One Day International series against New Zealand on Saturday, securing a four-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after rain interrupted play in Wellington. When weather conditions halted the match in the 27th over, India stood at 113 for seven, four runs ahead of the required par score of 109.

The match at Wellington had already been reduced to a maximum of 47 overs per side following earlier wet weather. After being inserted to bat, New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs on a surface offering unpredictable bounce and movement for seam bowlers. Daryl Mitchell top-scored for the hosts with a 55-run effort, while captain Mitchell Santner contributed 31. No other New Zealand batsman passed 11 runs.

India's pace attack maintained control throughout the innings, led by Gurnoor Brar, who recorded career-best ODI figures of four wickets for 30 runs. Brar delivered a double strike in the 20th over by dismissing Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips cheaply to reduce the host side to 53 for five. Auqib Nabi took his first two international wickets, removing opening batters Will Young and Tim Seifert to finish with figures of two for 31.

In response, India encountered persistent difficulties during their run chase against New Zealand's seamers. Fast bowler Jacob Duffy took three wickets for 35 runs, dismissing Indian captain Shubman Gill for a golden duck and removing Virat Kohli for seven. Kyle Jamieson also claimed three for 35, including the wicket of Shreyas Iyer, who had top-scored for India with 30 before leaving the visitors struggling at 86 for five.

KL Rahul remained undefeated on 26 alongside Nabi on one when persistent rain forced play to be abandoned. The result follows India's five-wicket victory in the rain-affected series opener in Auckland on Wednesday. The third match of the five-game series is scheduled to take place in Hamilton on Tuesday.
