"One Battle After Another" dominates the Golden Globes
Leonardo DiCaprio drama-comedy and Hamnet take top film honors as politics returns to the red carpet

The 2026 Golden Globe Awards crowned One Battle After Another and Hamnet as the evening’s biggest winners, confirming their status as early frontrunners for the awards season ahead.
One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, won Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), while Hamnet claimed the prize for Best Motion Picture (Drama). The ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and was hosted for the second consecutive year by comedian Nikki Glaser.
A sweep for One Battle After Another
In One Battle After Another, Leonardo DiCaprio plays a former left-wing revolutionary forced to confront the consequences of his past later in life. The film emerged as the night’s most decorated title, winning:
-
Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy)
-
Best Director
-
Best Screenplay
-
Best Supporting Actress for Teyana Taylor
The film’s success reinforced Paul Thomas Anderson’s reputation as one of Hollywood’s most consistently acclaimed filmmakers.
Acting awards highlight Chalamet and Buckley
One of the evening’s standout acting wins went to Timothée Chalamet, who took Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of a professional table tennis player in Marty Supreme.
In the drama categories, Jessie Buckley was named Best Actress for her performance in Hamnet, while Wagner Moura won Best Actor in a Drama for The Secret Agent.
Television: Adolescence leads the field
On the television side, the series Adolescence dominated with four awards, making it the most successful show of the night. Other major TV wins included:
- Best Drama Series: The Pitt
- Best Comedy or Musical Series: The Studio
- Best Male Actor in a Drama Series: Noah Wyle (The Pitt)
A political note on the red carpet
Unlike the largely apolitical ceremony a year ago, this year’s Golden Globes featured visible political messaging. Several celebrities appeared on the red carpet wearing anti-ICE pins with slogans such as “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT,” expressing solidarity with Renee Nicole Good, a civilian recently killed by an agent of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency in Minneapolis.
The gesture sparked renewed debate about oversight and accountability of ICE and underscored Hollywood’s renewed willingness to blend cultural celebration with political expression.
Global voting and expanded categories
The Golden Globes are awarded in 27 film and television categories, with winners selected by more than 400 journalists from around the world. This year also marked the first inclusion of a Best Podcast category, reflecting the expanding scope of the entertainment industry.
As the awards season continues, the dominance of One Battle After Another and Hamnet positions both films as major contenders in the months leading up to the Oscars.
