EU defence chief urges Europe to rapidly expand missile production

Commissioner warns soaring global demand and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East are straining Western weapons supply chains

Europe must urgently increase missile production as global demand surges due to conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, the European Union’s defence commissioner has warned. Andrius Kubilius said current Western manufacturing capacity is insufficient to meet the growing need for advanced air defence systems, particularly for Ukraine as it continues to face Russian missile attacks. Speaking during a visit to Poland — the first stop on what he called a “Missile Tour” across Europe — Kubilius stressed that missile production had become the most pressing challenge for European allies.
